Market Price
Angels save money compared to Market Price...
Our market price is what you’d actually have to pay for this wine at an old-fashioned retail store.
It’s based on the price of similarly rated benchmark bottles on the market.
We test these market prices every vintage with blind tasting panels, to make sure they’re honest and accurate.
If you buy one of our wines and disagree with the Angel Price, we’ll give you your money back.

About the wine
Limited edition, hand-made & packed with powerful elegance
- The grapes are from the beautiful Chalmers estate vineyard in Heathcote. 2020 was an excellent vintage and Bart jumped at the chance to make this limited edition, hand made batch for your drinking delight. It’s powerful, but not heavy - a hallmark of Heathcote.
- This is a truly hand-crafted wine - wild fermented, basket pressed and matured in old French oak barriques. It’s been left unfined and only lightly filtered to lock in the fruit characters, and bottle aged to make sure it's at optimum drinking now.
- If you like Rum 'n' Raisin chocolate, this is the one for you - attractively earthy, with a hint of sweet fruit and smooth but still fresh. The Mataro pepper and spice notes definitely pop, with the Shiraz plum and berry flavours taking a back seat. And there's a dusty cigar box character there which adds complexity. Just stunning.
Best before
Drink now but cellar up to 10 years.
Serving advice
allow it time to breathe, you could decant but also just opening the bottle half hour before pouring, or allowing the glass to sit a little while after pouring will bring out the best aroma in the wine.
Food match
Because of the acidity and freshness it will pair well with roast pork or pork chops. Or especially well with middle eastern spiced lamb.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Bart Van Olphen
- Bart van Olphen’s wine journey is totally unique. Born and raised among the windmills and tulips of his native Holland, he learned his winemaking craft in Germany’s Pfalz region, honed it in the USA, handmade mighty reds alongside the legend that is Steve Pannell for eight years in McLaren Vale before settling in Victoria.
- Bart is married to Kim Chalmers of the famed Chalmers vineyards and it’s from these excellent family-grown grapes that he sources the most delectable, pristine fruit to power his Angel-exclusive B.V.O range of deliciousness!
- Bart is very much a minimal interventionist winemaker: grow the best fruit, let it talk and stay hands off as much as possible. And with the huge array of Chalmers grapes available to choose from Bart is like a kid in a candy store!
