About the wine
Warming and balanced from Sam the Man
- Get ready for a full bodied and ripe red wine with some grippy tannins typical of Cabernet. An impressive drop that is well balanced, you'll have envious friends wanting to try a glass!
- This wine is quite intensely perfumed and for Sam, big flavour is an indicator of high quality.
- Think Blackcurrant with some menthol and eucalyptus notes. Chocolaty oak is also evident on the nose. This wine is quite simply moreish!
Best before
Some Cabernet based wines are begging to be left alone for a year or two. This wine has enough tannin (which is a natural preservative) that it will age and evolve in a good way over several years, but there is also a roundness to these tannins, and lovely fruit flavours which make it an enjoyable drink now.
Serving advice
I think serve the Cabernet at 16-18C. In truth I would open the bottle and get straight into it, but if you have the time and patience it will open up a little if left to breath for an hour or two.
Food match
This is a pretty versatile red, and would go well with a wide range of red meats, and hard cheese. To pick just one dish, I'd go for roast lamb. The protein in the meat will make the tannin feel softer. And along with the red fruit flavours there is a slight herbal note typical of Cabernet, this will be a complementary flavour like the sprig of rosemary Mum sometimes puts with roast lamb. Delicious!

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Winemaking legend Sam sources grapes from the family vineyard in the Strathbogie ranges of Central Victoria. Winemakers don't come much more in love with their job than him - he'd "happily spend everyday around tanks, barrels, stainless steel toys and wine".
He’s had a meteoric rise from self-taught winemaker to a multi award-winner and even has his own cellar door now! His winery was recently recognised as one of the Top 10 Dark Horse wineries in James Halliday's 2021 Awards.
The backing of thousands of Naked Angels has helped pave the way for Sam to continue making the great wine he loves, exclusively for you!
