About the wine
Aged and blended to perfection
- Jen's trip to Douro in Portugal thanks to Angels voting for her fantasy in 2014 was truly once in a lifetime. It led her to team up with passionate locals oozing with creativity and traditional know-how, all in the name of turning out Angel-exclusive wine direct from the oldest wine region in the world. Wine has been made in Douro since the 1700's!
- This blend is completely unique, bringing together several indigenous Portuguese grape varietals like Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Souzao and Tinta Barocca. You'll be treated to a glass full of vibrant purple-red juice, spilling out aromas of violets and dark cherries, with a touch of spicy, toasty oak. The ultimate reward will be the elegant palate, dripping with black fruits and long, fine tannins leading to a savoury finish. Angels, we've never had anything quite like this!
- The wine was crushed by foot (a process known as "pisa"), and only by the women working in the winery (on Jen's request!) During the fermentation, hand plunging and foot treading occurred three times every day. Following this the wine was transferred to French oak barrels to mature for 12 months. The Douro Valley is Jen's spiritual winemaking home, right alongside Rutherglen. The opportunity to fulfil her lifelong winemaking dream makes this wines priceless in her eyes...pop it in your basket and see if you agree!
Best before
The Douro DOC is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to impress until 2024.
Serving advice
Opening and decanting one or two hours prior to serving will do it most justice, ensuring all the layers sing out to their full potential.
Food match
If you were enjoying this in the Douro Valley, it would be served with slow-cooked red meats, with trimmings like potatoes drizzled with olive oil. Back home, a butterflied leg of lamb cooked on the barbeque, with rosemary, garlic and a touch of mint would certainly hit the spot!
