About the wine
Unique Shiraz blend from the history books
- This Saperavi Shiraz is unlike anything you’ve tried before. It’s the inspiration of avant garde winemakers following their passion for creating, or recreating, unique wines.
- Inspired by ancient wines of long ago, Glen and Andrew have blended Georgian Saperavi grapes with high altitude Shiraz to create a truly ‘Naked’ wine - minimal intervention, unfined, unfiltered, unoaked and made in terracotta pots!
- The wine is bold and earthy, tasting like blackberry with a touch of dark chocolate and fruity spice, and a fair bit of zip on the tongue. Pour a glass to turn back the clock and experience what our ancestors were quaffing 8,000 years ago.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glen Robert
- Expect the unexpected from Glen Robert at La Petite Mort. A former medical research chemist, Glen fell under wine’s spell around 2000 – and never looked back.
- In 2014, he discovered Shiraz and Viognier vines in need of some TLC in Ballandean, on Queensland’s Granite Belt. Today, the 40-hectare Bent Road property is home to vines, winery, wilderness and granite boulders, stretching along the pristine Severn River at more than 750 metres above sea level.
- It’s a surprisingly cool, continental corner of Queensland – one of the coolest growing regions in Australia – and that climate gives Glen’s wines their distinctive elegance, savoury spice and depth of flavour.
- La Petite Mort is Glen’s label – avant-garde, experimental and made for curious drinkers, these are wines that happily throw the rulebook out the window. Think extended skin contact, ancestral techniques and plenty of Glen’s scientific curiosity – resulting in seriously intriguing wines for those who like their next bottle to be a little bit different.
