About the wine
Hand-crafted artisan class; the elegant Édith Piaf of Shiraz
- Angels, this is your opportunity to bring something completely different to the table! It's gentle, balanced and flavoursome palate is a stunning step away from the typical 'bowl'-me-over' style of Shiraz that dominates the Australian market.
- Co-fermenting Shiraz and Viognier grapes has a particular magic about it, creating a light, spicy and savoury experience. This blend has bright red fruits abound, with the added lift of honeysuckle and white pepper to finish. As each sip evolves, you'll know exactly what the boys mean when they say the hallmark of a truly great wine is the endless desire to pour yourself "just one more glass!"
- Hand-picked, hand-crafted and hand-bottled (right down to the hand-dipped natural wax finish) ...You just don't often find wines made like this. The true meaning of 'La Petit Mort' is about enjoyment- letting go of restraints and revelling in something new and maybe a little titillating. Made in tiny quantities, this piece of Naked history won't stick around long!
Best before
The lighter, brighter style of Shiraz resulting from the cool-climate Granite Belt lends itself perfectly to an early-release, drink-now drop.
For the more patient among us, the balance of good acidity and silky tannin structure ensures that it will continue to improve in the bottle until 2020.
Serving advice
Open and roughly decant (or double decant) before serving to introduce oxygen and open the wine up, ideally for an hour or more.
A tip for the hand-dipped wax top: ignore the wax, go straight in through the wax with the cork screw. Pop the cork in the usual manner and tidy up the wax on the rim of the bottle with a knife afterwards. All good fun!
Food match
This is steak wine! Best paired with juicy, flavoursome cuts like rump or T-bone done simply on the BBQ. A great vegan option is eggplant steaks with green-olive and herb salsa, or roasted field mushrooms with your favourite red sauce.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glen Robert
- Expect the unexpected from Glen Robert at La Petite Mort. A former medical research chemist, Glen fell under wine’s spell around 2000 – and never looked back.
- In 2014, he discovered Shiraz and Viognier vines in need of some TLC in Ballandean, on Queensland’s Granite Belt. Today, the 40-hectare Bent Road property is home to vines, winery, wilderness and granite boulders, stretching along the pristine Severn River at more than 750 metres above sea level.
- It’s a surprisingly cool, continental corner of Queensland – one of the coolest growing regions in Australia – and that climate gives Glen’s wines their distinctive elegance, savoury spice and depth of flavour.
- La Petite Mort is Glen’s label – avant-garde, experimental and made for curious drinkers, these are wines that happily throw the rulebook out the window. Think extended skin contact, ancestral techniques and plenty of Glen’s scientific curiosity – resulting in seriously intriguing wines for those who like their next bottle to be a little bit different.
