About the wine
Top quality single vineyard Shiraz from noted McLaren Vale region
-
Winemaker Glenn Barry has used superb grapes from a single vineyard, in the Blewitt Springs subregion of McLaren Vale. The region is hot property right now, with wines from the sandy vineyard attracting attention for their unique and interesting flavours. The wines from this specific vineyard are 40 years old and have been carefully tended to, giving the grapes more vibrancy than ever. “The vines are in perfect balance, producing more fruit and better quality fruit,” shares Glenn.
-
Delicious aromas of purple fruits, raspberries and a hint of dried herbs will greet you first, followed by a sip that will deliver you a fresh and well flavoured wine. It’s not a big, rich wine however, it’s superbly medium bodied, with tannins providing a nice, savoury element. With a lovely lingering flavour, there are also some bay leaf and peppercorn highlights to make sure you’re left totally satisfied.
-
This is a top quality Shiraz, from a world-class region. “Wine from a vineyard meticulously tended for over 40 years at this price, is quite literally crazy!” enthuses Glenn. It’s ready to be enjoyed now, but if you can keep your hands off it, will continue to develop well for the next 5-7 years too.
Best before
The wine is made to be enjoyed now but it has enough pedigree to develop further over the next 5-7 years if you have a nice cool place to store it and can keep your hands off it
Serving advice
A splash in a decanter is never a bad thing in my view it's a quick way to open up the wine and enjoy it immediately though this isn't necessary as it will slowly breathe as it sits in an open bottle which will alow you to appreciate the evolution of the wine from one glass to the next.
Food match
I love a good cassoulet and this wine has enough perfume and fruit intensity to stand up to the strong flavours and cut through the delicious textures of confit duck leg and cannelini beans. Enjoy a glass while it's cooking and another while eating!

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glenn Barry
- Glenn Barry is a South Australian wine wizard, an ex-chief winemaker for Knappstein and a highly respected wine show judge. His philosophy of ‘no boring wines’ ensures a fantastically flavoured flourish in every bottle.
He’s had a stellar career working vintages in big wineries in Italy, the US and Canada, as well as here in Australia. When he tired of years sleeping on other folks' couches, he settled down in South Australia and worked his way up the ranks to Chief Winemaker.
With a ton of medals under his belt and all the right connections, he’s struck out on his own. Now he makes his own wines for us that are fun and interesting to drink. And you can be the judge of that!
