About the wine
Lush and layered Victorian Cabernet
- Created from Cabernet grapes from several vineyards, including one in Bendigo that’s been sold to a mining company, so it's a unique blend you won't see again.
- “I have a picture in mind of what the wine should be like, and have the jigsaw puzzle pieces from different vineyards. The trick is finding the right pieces to make a complete and beautiful picture!” says winemaker Sam.
- He's made a corker! A deep ruby gem that smells of black cherry and blackcurrant with a minty note and a little spice from time in oak barrels - warm, rich and easy-drinking.
Best before
Cabernet grapes have thick skins so are naturally high in tannin. This tannin acts as a preservative and gives wine some capacity to age. But in this Cabernet the tannins have a roundness and are not overtly drying and grippy, so the wine is not demanding time to mature and soften and I really like the lovely primary fruit. So, it will age, but I think is a great drink now and over the next year or so for the primary fruit and pretty aromatics.
Serving advice
No need to decant, and I think serve at 16-18C.
Food match
Our 17 year old son Ed has been working to perfect pan seared butter basted steak. Ed's cooking and this wine bring together three of my favourite things - steak, salty butter and full bodied red wine! If you're feeling indulgent, give it a go!

Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Winemaking legend Sam sources grapes from the family vineyard in the Strathbogie ranges of Central Victoria. Winemakers don't come much more in love with their job than him - he'd "happily spend everyday around tanks, barrels, stainless steel toys and wine".
He’s had a meteoric rise from self-taught winemaker to a multi award-winner and even has his own cellar door now! His winery was recently recognised as one of the Top 10 Dark Horse wineries in James Halliday's 2021 Awards.
