About the wine
Deep, rich and powerful.
- It's back! This is a deep brooding red, just as gorgeous on the nose and palate as it is when you first clasp eyes on its beautiful label. This Diamond is full of the very best quality fruit from two Rutherglen vineyards and a parcel of fruit from Heathcote where very low yields are maintained to ensure the fullest of flavours each and every sip.
- This wine comes with a warning - it is a BIG red! If you love a drop that is bold and not afraid to show off its layers, you simply can't go past the Diamond Durif. The varietal is naturally very high in tannin so picking the grapes at exactly the right time is vital.
- Jen has crafted this vintage beautifully. The wine has a dark and inky purple colour. The nose abounds with black berries and blood plums, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. With rich flavours on the fore to mid palate and plenty of tannin giving length and power on the finish, make sure you're sitting down for your first sip....it may just knock you off your feet!
Best before
If you love your reds big and bold, my Diamond Durif is sure to wow you now with its punchy fruit and impressive power.
However, my Diamond Durif has the structure for long-term maturation for 15 years to 2033, for a complex wine with rounded fruit and earthy, berry notes.
Serving advice
Being such a young bold red, I recommend opening and allowing to breathe or decanting for as long as possible prior to serving, anywhere between 3-6 hours. If time is your enemy, an aerator can help introduce oxygen to the wine to help open it up, or even double decanting (decanting the wine into a jug, then back into the bottle) can also help the wine reveal itself.
Ideal serving temperature is 54-62°F.
Food match
My Diamond Durif loves anything that is rich in protein.
Try it with BBQ'd short ribs, slow cooked lamb shanks in Durif sauce, or slow cooker beef brisket with BBQ sauce.
A must try vegetarian pairing is Durif-baked mushrooms, olives and herbs, served with brown rice and caramelized onions; or Mexican black beans with corn chips.
