About the wine
A Pinot with this much character is rare
-
Mike sourced grapes from some of the oldest vines in the region and made them into a stunning wine using painstaking traditional Burgundian techniques from France.
-
This wine simply oozes Pinot character - spiced sour cherry and plums with earthy mushroom notes that wind their way through each sip. The tannins are silky smooth and make for a very satisfying mouthful.
-
A wine from a vineyard of such pedigree, combined with the level of winemaking skill would usually set you back $$$. You can enjoy it for a lot less, because YOU made it happen!
Best before
Super fresh and zesty while young but there's enough structure to comfortably age for 8-10 years (but I would prefer it young and fresh).
Serving advice
I always believe in decanting (if you can) young reds - it's a misnomer that you only decant old reds, you get much more benefit doing it with young wines!! If you can't decant, then don't rush the glass, just let it sit and swirl for a while and enjoy it change over time.
Food match
Absolute no-brainer with gamier type meats you could try a vegetarian paring of roasted beetroot risotto with feta.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Mike & Callum Garland
Father, Mike (‘Babbo’), spent the last 14 vintages at Castelli Estate in Denmark, WA, creating wines like their ‘Il Liris’ Chardonnay that won Best White in the 2020 AND 2021 International Wine & Spirit Competition. He’s in demand with other leading WA wineries like Rockcliffe, Singlefile and Plantagenet too.
Mike’s son Callum (‘Mimmo’) is snapping eagerly at his heels - an up-and-coming winemaker in his own right. He’s already up to his ears in grape juice, learning the ropes from one of the real characters of the business in Geelong.
Now, thanks to the backing of thousands of appreciative Angels across Australia, they can come together to create outstanding cool climate wines from the juiciest vineyards in WA's Great Southern region, and Victoria. “That’s so precious and it wouldn’t have happened for many years without the Angels.” says Mike. That's why the wines are just for you.
