Coby Ladwig's Story
Born and bred in Denmark, West Australia, where the forest meets the sea, Coby spent endless after-school hours playing amongst the vineyards where his Mum worked. So when it came to choosing his career, there was one very appealing option!
After graduating from Curtin University with a winemaking degree under his belt, it seemed only natural to return to the hometown his heart had never left. Coby had just one passionate intention:
“To seek out the very best, small sub-region sites to make exceptional single-vineyard wines that can compete with the best in the world.”
He went on to apply his silky winemaking skills to the stunning West Cape Howe, Singlefile and Rockcliffe wineries. They rocketed to coveted 5-Star Halliday status, and Coby made the Top 50 finalists list for the Young Guns of Wine awards.
But, it was only when Coby summoned up all his courage to strike out on his own, that things really began to fall into place. When he became a liberated Naked winemaker, Angel support meant he could handcraft small-volume boutique wines exclusively for them, that’s when another dream took shape - he now owns his own vineyard.
“Naked Wines means everything to us. It is a way of getting our wines that we are very proud of onto the tables of people that will appreciate them. No point in making a great wine if no one is able to try it.”
