About the wine
A rich and full-bodied delight
- The fruit for this wine comes mainly from two vineyards - the River Gum vineyard near Murchison and the Gentle Annie Vineyard at Dookie in Central Victoria. Each brings its own delicious characters to the finished wine.
- Fermented in a range of different vessels to add more complexity, this is a rich and full-bodied delight. Warming dark fruit and bramble flavours mingle with spice and chocolate notes from its time on oak, and finish with just enough of that classic Cabernet tannin grip.
- An impressive well-balanced red, you'll have envious friends wanting to try a glass (or two). Try one now and pop one away for a year or two to discover what magic happens!
Best before
Some Cabernet based wines are begging to be left alone for a year or two. This wine has enough of the grippy tannins (which are a natural preservative) that it will age and evolve in a good way over several years, but there is also a roundness to the tannin, and lovely fruit flavours which make it an enjoyable drink now.
Serving advice
I think serve the Cabernet at 16-18C. In truth I would open the bottle and get straight into it, but if you have the time and patience it will open up a little if left to breath for an hour or two.
Food match
This is a pretty versatile red, and would go well with a wide range of red meats, and hard cheese. To pick just one dish, I'd go for roast lamb. The protein in the meat will make the tannin feel softer. And along with the bramble and blackcurrant primary aroma is a slight herbal note typical of Cabernet, and this will be a complementary flavour like the sprig of rosemary Mum sometimes puts with roast lamb. Delicious!

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Winemaking legend Sam sources grapes from the family vineyard in the Strathbogie ranges of Central Victoria. Winemakers don't come much more in love with their job than him - he'd "happily spend everyday around tanks, barrels, stainless steel toys and wine".
He’s had a meteoric rise from self-taught winemaker to a multi award-winner and even has his own cellar door now! His winery was recently recognised as one of the Top 10 Dark Horse wineries in James Halliday's 2021 Awards.
The backing of thousands of Naked Angels has helped pave the way for Sam to continue making the great wine he loves, exclusively for you!
